Side Effects of Taking Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) tend not to produce the same side-effects as the TCAs, such as dry mouth and constipation, and are less likely to cause heart problems if taken in overdose, but they are less sedating.

Doctors may prefer not to prescribe an Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - for example, if someone has epilepsy or the person is in as manic-phase. Also, the SSRIs are not necessarily more effective than TCAs.

As with other antidepressants, abrupt withdrawal from SSRIs can produce unpleasant side-effects, so it must be done slowly and under medical supervision.
