Person Centered Counselling for depression treatmentSometimes called the humanistic approach, this branch of therapy was originally developed by Carl Rogers. The therapy starts from the premise that the client has vast potential for change, growth, development and fulfillment. The counselor helps the client to reach their potential by offering genuineness, total acceptance or what counselor call - unconditional positive regard and empathy. The idea is for a depressed person to feel comfortable enough to say anything they want - and feel confident that the therapist will understand, accept what they say, explore their feelings further, and so on. The great thing about person Centered counselling is that client often feel really listened to and heard, and may feel for the enormous relief. the Counselor won't try to censor what the client wants to say, so it can be a wonderful release to feel you can open up and say every little thing you want to say. In person Centered counselling, the emphasis tends to be on what's happening in the client's life at the moment rather than an over-reliance on talking about their childhood and past, although in practice this is often relevant and may well be addressed at length.
